With the great weather upon us and the sun making us think carefully about the timing that we head out for a run for fear of sun burn and dehydration; many of us take the time to consider carefully what we wear and even the route we plan to run. Few of us consider the effects of the sun on our eyes!
As someone who enjoys running in the heat and will often make a point to go running while on holiday in places like Sri Lanka, Goa and Antigua, i had not even once considered the strain on my eyes. During a recent gathering with some friends ( also runners) I found each sported a different pair of sunglasses, each one claiming they were the best for running with. - they ranged greatly in costs, style and their owners happiness with them.
On researching glasses suitable to active people I came across, amongst others; Maui Jim's active range http://www.mauijim.com/
I obtained a pair of their Kanaha 409 sunglasses - I have worn these over the past 6-8 weeks when I have been out running. I opted for the brown colour frames and lenses, a most unusual choice for me, but one I thought would give me the best possible test as i am often use to wearing darkened lenses.
The Kanaha 409 are without doubt a superb pair of sunglasses. the clarity of the lenses are magnificent, but the most impressive thing about these glasses is that you hardly even feel that you are wearing them. The arms have a nice soft sponge grip on them that hold them firm against the side of the head and the nose bridge has a similar grip which prevents further movement. The combination of these seemingly minor features combine to give a very well balanced pair of sunglasses.
If like me you suffer from "crow's feet" wrinkles - which suffer even more as i squint in the sun, then these sunglasses will go a long way to improving that squinting and making your run a lot more enjoyable.
